Rabe Collects 250th Win In Split With Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University baseball team split with Rockhurst University in Sunday's (Mar. 25) doubleheader.  QU fell in the first game 3-2 before winning the second game 5-2.  

The Hawks took the series 3-1.  

Play by Play:

Game 1

Both offenses were held scoreless through the first two frames.  

QU tacked on the first run of the game in the top of the third inning.  

Matt Hilmes doubled and was singled home by Brynn Martinez to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.  The next batter, Cody Birdsong, doubled home Martinez and QU led 2-0 after three innings.  

Rockhurst plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the QU lead to 2-1.  

Rockhurst scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead over QU.  

QU placed runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh.  The next two QU Hawks were retired and Rockhurst took the first game of the doubleheader 3-2.  

Game 2

Troy Wehde launched a two-run home run in the top of the first to give QU a 2-0 lead.  

A leadoff double by Chandler Purcell and a two-out single by TJ Tamaccio gave QU a 3-0 lead after two innings.  

QU starter Brandan Moriarty worked five scoreless innings before allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.  

Leading 3-2 after six innings,  Cody Birdsong singled with two outs in the top of the seventh.  Wehde doubled home Birdsong to extend QU's lead to 4-2.  

Jack Widhalm worked a scoreless seventh and QU plated another run in the eighth inning to give QU a 5-2 lead.  

Widhalm and Sam Stephens combined for a scoreless eighth.  

In the bottom of the ninth Cole Crawford replaced Sam Stephens on the mound.  

After a strikeout, Rockhurst loaded the bases with one out.  

Crawford got a strikeout and a groundout and recorded his fifth save of the season.  

With the win, head coach Josh Rabe collected his 250th win as head coach of the Quincy Hawks.
