QUINCY, Ill. - The #23 Quincy University baseball team dropped game two of their three-game series against the University of Southern Indiana Saturday afternoon (Mar. 17). The Hawks fell behind early and couldn't overcome the large lead in the game.
Play by Play:
Southern Indiana plated a run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. The Screaming Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the second to lead the Hawks 4-0 after two innings.
The Hawks scored a run in the top of the third. After JC DeMuri singled, Carter Naughton pinch ran for DeMuri. He was doubled home by Troy Wehde to cut the Eagles lead to 4-1.
Southern Indiana scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to push the lead back to 7-1.
The Hawks answered with three runs of their own in the top of the third as Cody Birdsong doubled to left field, scoring Brynn Martinez, Matt Hilmes, and Michael Nielsen.
The first three Hawks reached in the top of the sixth and TJ Tamaccio scored on a single by Cody Birdsong after an error by the Eagles right fielder. Wehde would later reach on a fielders choice, scoring Brynn Martinez and cutting the lead to 7-6.
With Wehde on first with two outs, Jeff Hightower drove a double into the right-center gap. Wehde, trying to score from first, was cut down on a relay throw and the Eagles maintained their one-run lead.
The Screaming Eagles put up five runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 12-6 after six full innings.
The Hawks went quietly in their final three at-bats and fell to the Screaming Eagles 12-6.
