QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team took the #6 Loyola University Chicago to five sets before falling to the Ramblers 3-2.
The Hawks fell behind in the first set and struggled against the Ramblers in the opening set. QU committed seven attack errors in the first set and Loyola Chicago took advantage. The Ramblers hit .391 in the first set, tallying 12 kills.
The Hawks fell 25-16.
In the second set, the Hawks fell behind again. QU trailed 13-7 midway through the set. The Ramblers kept up the offensive display and took the second set 25-15.
QU came alive in the third set. QU led 19-17 and looked to extend the match to a fourth set. The Ramblers were able to retake the lead at 24-23. Facing match point, QU got a pair of kills by
Shane McAdams and Blake Sprecher to take a 25-24 lead. Loyola Chicago tied the set at 25-25.
A kill by McAdams and an attack error by the Ramblers gave the Hawks a 27-25 set win.
QU fell behind 9-6 in the fourth set before a QU 3-0 run tied the set at 9-9. The Hawks trailed 18-17 late in the set. QU scored four of the next five points to take a 21-19 lead. The Hawks took the fourth set 25-22.
In the fifth set, the Ramblers quickly jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Hawks cut the lead to 13-11. The Ramblers scored the final two points to take the match 15-11.
Anthony Winter led the Hawks with 18 kills,
Shane McAdams added 13 kills for QU.
The Hawks fall to 8-4, 0-2 in the MIVA. QU continues its roadtrip tomorrow against Lewis University.
