QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team battled another nationally ranked opponent Saturday night. The Hawks fell to the #8 Lewis University Flyers 3-0 Saturday night (Feb. 8).
QU took an early 7-4 lead against Lewis. The Flyers responded with a 3-0 run to tie the set 7-7. The back and forth set continued until the score stood 14-13 in favor of Lewis. A four-point run allowed Lewis to take control with an 18-14 lead. Lewis remained in control during the opening set and held on for a 25-20 set win.
In the second set, the Hawks again jumped out to an early lead over the Flyers. QU led Lewis 8-6 in the early going. Lewis took nine of the next 10 points to grab a 15-9 lead over the Hawks. The Flyers ended the set on a 19-3 run. Lewis took the second set 25-13.
The Hawks would be forced to try and extend the match in the third set.
The Hawks and Flyers stood tied at 6-6 early. A 7-1 run by the Flyers put Lewis up 13-7 midway through the third set. The Hawks cut the lead to 20-16 late in the set after a kill by Zach Reider. The Flyers would score the match's final five points and defeated the Hawks 25-16.

Anthony Winter and Omari Wheeler, who both tallied six kills for QU.
Noah Randall finished with 24 assists in the match.
QU falls to 8-5, 0-3 in MIVA competition.
The Hawks are back in action on February 18th against the Ohio State Buckeyes at 1 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
