Box Score 1 QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team was victorious in both of its matches Saturday (Feb. 17). The Hawks defeated St. Ambrose University and Wartburg College, 8-1 and 6-3.
The Hawks began the afternoon by taking on the St. Ambrose Bees. The Hawks dropped just one match against the Bees. Daniel Vayser fell in No. 1 singles in a tough battle. Vayser took the opening set 6-3 before falling 7-6 in set two and fell in the tiebreaker 10-5.
QU responded by winning the next eight matches, including a pair of exhibition matches.
Michael Lesko won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Junior Dane Mechali was victorious 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.
Collin Adams won 7-5, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. Ryan McMillian and Wyatt Pauley both won in No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles competition, McMillian and Vayser defeated Tom Greenwood and Jake Anderson 8-5 in No. 1 singles.
Adams and Mechali won in No. 2 doubles 8-4. Lesko and Anderson were also victorious in No. 3 doubles.
The Hawks had their hands full in the second match of the day and had to battle for each match.
QU fell in both No. 1 and No. 2 singles competition but responded by taking the final four singles matches.
Mechali won 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles. Colin Adams won 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. Ryan McMillan won 6-3, 6-0. Wyatt Pauley finished the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
The Hawks fell in No. 1 doubles competition. The Hawks won back to back doubles matches 8-3. Adams and Mechali won in No. 2 doubles and Erik Weiler and Patrick Anderson won in No. 3 doubles.
The Hawks are back in action March 12th in Hilton Head, South Carolina for the USPTR Tennis Fest.
