QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team defeated the Culver-Stockton Wildcats 3-0 Wednesday night (Jan. 31). The Hawks won the three sets 25-20, 26-24, 25-22.
Culver-Stockton finished the match with 18 attack errors, including nine in the first set.
QU and Culver-Stockton sat tied at 15-15 in the first set.
A 3-0 QU run gave the Hawks a 18-15 lead and control of the opening set. The Hawks used this advantage to take the first set 25-20.
The Hawks trailed 5-3 in the second set before going on a 4-0 run to take a 7-5 lead.
QU held a 20-13 lead late in the second set. A 5-0 run by the Wildcats cut the Hawks lead to 20-18.
The Wildcats faced set point with QU leading 24-21. Culver-Stockton scored three straight points to tie the set 24-24. A kill by
Shane McAdams and an ace by
Thane Fanfulik gave the Hawks a 26-24 set win.
The Hawks and Wildcats were locked in a back and forth matchup in the third set. Both teams traded points until the score stood 17-17.
Culver-Stockton scored two points to take a 19-17 lead. The Hawks responded by scoring five straight points to regain the lead, 22-20.
The Hawks ended the match by scoring eight of the last ten points to take the set 25-22.
Anthony Winter led the Hawks with 15 kills and
Adam Rogan finished the match with 34 assists.
QU improves to 6-3 after defeating the Wildcats for the second time this season.
QU returns home for a matchup against Lincoln Memorial University at 7 p.m. in Pepsi Arena Friday night.
