QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team split its game against Campbellsville University and Clarke University Saturday (Jan. 27).  

The Hawks defeated the Tigers 3-0 before falling to Clarke 3-2.  

QU was in complete control in the first match of the day.  

The Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first set. The Hawks extended their lead to 21-13 late in the first set.  Despite a late comeback by Campbellsville the Hawks held on for a 25-18 set win.  

QU continued its strong play in the second set.  The Hawks won the second set 25-12.  QU held Campbellsville to a negative hitting percentage in both the first and the second set.  

The Hawks continued to improve its play in the third set.  QU finished the set with 13 kills and hit .391.  QU forced the Tigers into 9 attack errors in the third set.  QU took the third set 25-21.  

This improved the Hawks to 5-2 on the year.  

QU and Clarke were locked in a tight battle in the final match of the day.  

The Hawks dropped the first set 26-24.  QU held a 24-23 lead late in the set but Clarke was able to take the final three points of the set to take the opening set.  

QU responded by winning the second set 25-17.  

The back and forth battle between QU and Clarke continued in the third set.  Clarke trailed 18-15 in the third set before going on a 6-0 run to take a 21-18 lead.  Clarke won the third set 25-21.  

Just as in the second set, the Hawks responded.  QU took advantage of seven attack errors and won the set 25-17.  

The Hawks had a chance to take the match with a 23-22 lead.  Clarke took the final three points to win the set and the match.  

QU fell to 5-3 on the year.
