Hawks Consistent Play Leads to 17 Point Win.

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball program scored at least 20 points in all four quarters en route to a 17 point win over Missouri S&T Thursday night (Jan. 25).  The Hawks defeated the Miners 84-67.

The first quarter was all QU as the Hawks outscored the Miners 21-5 in the opening quarter.  The Miners held a 4-2 lead with 7:30 remaining in the first half before the Hawks held Missouri S&T scoreless for the next seven minutes and twenty-one seconds.  

During this time the Hawks scored 17 points and held a 19-4 lead.  Maddie Spagnola put the Hawks ahead 21-5 on a last-second layup to end the opening quarter.  

The second quarter saw the Hawks consistent play continue.  The Hawks opened their lead up to 21 with 4:18 remaining in the first quarter after a Jessie Rabas layup.  

QU extended its lead to 28 with 2:21 to play in the quarter. 

The Hawks took a 27 point lead into the half.  

Jessica Merino was the story of the third quarter, as the sophomore guard hit four three-pointers.

Missouri S&T managed to score 31 points in the third quarter but it was Merino's three-point shooting that kept the Hawks in the driver's seat.  

Jennifer Warfield gave the Hawks their largest lead at 77-48 with 7:25 remaining in the game after knocking down a free throw.  

Missouri S&T managed to trim the lead to 17 but the Hawks held on comfortably for the 84-67 win.

Anika Webster finished with 23 points on 9-11 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.  Merino finished with 15 points as she hit five three-pointers in the game.  

QU improved to 7-12, 3-7 in the GLVC.  

The Hawks finish their homestand Saturday (Jan. 27) against Lewis University at 1:00 p.m.
