QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team fell to nationally ranked Lindenwood University three sets to one.
The first set saw the Hawks and Lions deadlocked in a back and forth battle. The Lions led the Hawks 13-12 at the midpoint of the first set.
QU trailed 16-15 before a three-point run by Lindenwood gave the Lions a 19-15 lead. The Hawks battled back to cut the lead to 22-21 late in the first set.
The Lions won the final three points and took the set 25-21.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick 8-5 lead in the second set.
The Lions turned the momentum and took the lead 11-10.
After a QU timeout, the Hawks scored four straight points to grab a 14-11 lead.
QU continued its strong performance in the second set, extending its lead to 22-15 in the second set.
The Hawks were able to take the second set 25-18.
QU and Lindenwood remained in tight competition throughout the third set, with QU holding a 15-13 lead midway through the third set.
The Hawks and Lions sat tied at 22-22 late in the third set. Despite a comeback by the Hawks, Lindenwood took the third set 30-28.
The Lions came out firing in the fourth set, holding an 8-4 lead through the first 12 points of the fourth set.
QU again came from behind, tying the score at 13-13.
Lindenwood scored seven of the next eight points to take a 20-14 lead. The Hawks trimmed the lead to 23-20 but Lindenwood scored the final two points of the match and defeated the Hawks 25-20.
Anthony Winter and Brandon Davis each tallied 12 kills for the Hawks.
QU falls to 2-1, 0-1 in MIVA competition. The Hawks are back in action Monday, January 22nd, against St. Ambrose at 7:00 p.m. in Pepsi Arena.
