QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Missouri S&T 3-2 Friday evening (Sept. 22).
The Hawks struck first when
Cassidy Foley (Quincy, IL/Lewis & Clark) volleyed in a cross by
Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, MO./Eureka) to put the Hawks up 1-0.
Missouri S&T scored less than 90 seconds later on a penalty kick by Taylor Vollmer to tie the score at 1-1.
Just before halftime, the Miners set up for corner kick. Vollmer sent her cross to the back post and a header from Carli Tastad found the back of the net to put the Miners up 2-1.
QU made an offensive adjustment to the playing surface after the first half and tallied 16 shots in the second half.
In the 47th minute,
Alex Severino (St. Louis, MO./Ursuline) scored her third goal of the season off a redirect from Natalie Quiesnberry (St. Louis, MO./Lafayette) to tie the score at 2-2.
In the 58th minute,
Cassidy Foley sent a cross into the box that
Abby Pulliam redirected to
Katie Heiligenstein (Wentzville, MO./St. Dominic). Heiligenstein shot beat the Miners goalie to put the Hawks up 3-2 on her third goal of the season.
The Hawks held the 3-2 lead and remain undefeated on the season. QU improved to 6-0 and 4-0 in the GLVC.
QU travels to St. Louis to take on Maryville University Sunday (Sept. 24) for their next match.
