QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games to start the 2017 season.  The Hawks defeated Drury University 2-1 Sunday afternoon.  
The Hawks scored in the second minute of action by 
Alex Severino (St. Louis, MO / Ursuline) on an assist by 
Allison Birke (O'Fallon, MO/ St. Dominic).  The Hawks had two shots saved before Severino found the back of the net.  
Megan Swanson (St. Charles, MO/ St. Dominic) continued her impressive play, making a leaping save in the 30th minute to keep the lead 1-0 for QU.  
An injury caused a stoppage in play and allowed for a QU free kick 30 seconds before the half.  
Maddy Kuhlenberg (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) took the free kick, passing to Baylee Smith (Rochester, IL / Rochester).  Smith then found 
Maddie Bauer (O'Fallon, MO/ St. Dominic) who scored to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead 18 seconds before the half.  
It was Bauer's first collegiate goal and the Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the half.  
The Hawks offensive pressure continued throughout the second half but were unable to add to the two goal lead.  
In the 70th minute Drury set up for a corner kick.  Off a deflection, Gabby Menendez scored to bring the score to 2-1.  
It was the first goal the Hawks had allowed in over 430 minutes of action in the 2017 season.  
The Hawks tightened up their defense for the remainder of the game and held on for the 2-1 win.  
The QU offense totaled 25 shots, 16 of which were on goal.  
Swanson recorded seven saves and picked up her fifth win of the season.
