QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team took down undefeated Rockhurst University Friday evening. Both teams came into the match with unblemished records, QU 3-0 and Rockhurst 4-0.
As expected, the game saw strong play from both teams. Both goalies were tested early with each making a save to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0.
In the 29th minute a long pass was sent down the right hand side of the field to
Gabby Orlando (St. Charles, MO / Francis Howell). Orlando sent a ball into the middle of box to
Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, MO / St. Dominic).
Rief buried her shot passed the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season to give Quincy a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes to play in the first half.
QU took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after the first 45 minutes of play.
Rockhurst had early chance to tie the game in the second half on a shot by Lauren Merlo.
Megan Swanson (St. Charles, MO / St. Dominic) perserved the 1-0 lead with her fourth save of the game.
QU had several more chances to extend the lead but could not find the back of the net.
A final shot was put on goal by Rockhurst with 27 seconds remaining. Swanson made her sixth and final save of the game to give QU the 1-0 victory.
Quincy improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in GLVC play. QU takes on Drury University Sunday at 12 pm at Legends Stadium in their next GLVC contest.
