Rockhurst Takes Two From QU Tennis Teams

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams returned to Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday (April 7) afternoon at Reservoir Park, taking on Rockhurst.

Rockhurst picked up an 8-1 win over the women's team while the QU men fell, 9-0.

On the women's side, freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Canada) was the only player to earn a win beating Sara Flaxbeard, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8, in a tight match at No. 6 singles.

Senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) played a close match with Emma Schelble at the top singles position, but ultimately fell in the third set, 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.

The closest doubles match came in the third position as Tamara Santos and Justine Berezintsev defeated Kanaeva and senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.), 8-5.

Quincy fell to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play while Rockhurst improved to 10-4, 2-0 in the GLVC.

In the men's contest, Quincy (1-12, 1-2 GLVC) was not able to win a set in singles play against Rockhurst (9-5, 1-1 GLVC).

The closest singles match came at the No. 2 spot with sophomore Danyil Vayser (Round Rock, Ill./Gymnasium "Konsul" #86) falling to Daniel Chmielewski, 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/IPSE/East Central) and junior Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) lost to Jonas Stropus and Oskar Unger, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot in the closest doubles match.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Saturday (April 8) at Reservoir Park against William Jewell. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
