Nationally-Ranked Drury Defeats Hawks in GLVC Finale

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's and men's tennis teams finished up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday (April 14) with matches at nationally-ranked Drury.

The Drury women (17-2, 4-1 GLVC), ranked No. 14 on the women's side, beat the Hawks, 8-1, while the 17^th-ranked DU men defeated the Hawks, 9-0.

On the women's side, senior Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) gutted out a nervy third set, beating Lara Muller, 3-6, 7-5, 12-10, at No. 2 singles.

Senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) also extended her opponent, 44^th-ranked Larissa Karl, deep into a third set, but came up just shy, 3-6, 6-1, 12-10.

In doubles play, the Hawks (9-11, 2-4 GLVC) nearly picked up a win at the No. 3 spot, but senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) and freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Canada) came up just short against Karl and Arianna Demos, 9-7.

In the men's matches, the Hawks (2-13, 2-3 GLVC) were not able to pick up a set win against the Panthers (15-2, 4-0 GLVC).

Senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/IPSE/East Central) and junior Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) nearly beat 11^th-ranked Sebastien Amato and Maximilian Hepp, but fell, 8-6, at the top spot.

Junior Wyatt Pauley (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) played the closest match in singles play, falling to Leonardo Cerri, 6-0, 7-5, at the No. 5 position.

Both the women's and men's teams will conclude the regular season on Tuesday (April 18) with home matches against Lewis & Clark Community College at Reservoir Park. Doubles play is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
