Hawks Handle Coe, 7-2, in Midweek Matchup

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and nearly swept singles play as the Hawks came away with a 7-2 road win at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Wednesday (April 12).

The Hawks (9-10) were winners in the final two doubles spots in the match. Senior Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and junior Rebecca McIsaac (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleville East) topped Sara Lasecki and Kaitlin Fosler, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 3 doubles, senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) and freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Ontario) swept Ella White and Lakyn Boltz, 8-0.

Three of the six matches in singles play went to three sets with the Hawks winning in two of those. Kuenzi went to the final points with Lauren French, eventually winning, 6-2, 1-6, 11-9, at the No. 2 singles spot. McIsaac was a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 winner over Fosler at No. 4 singles.

Senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) defeated Haley Resnick, 6-1, 6-1, at the top singles position. McGinnis beat White, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Kanaeva won by the same scores at No. 6 singles over Tori Montoya.

The only defeat for the Hawks in singles play was a tightly-contested match, but Lasecki sneaked out a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win over junior Sydney Lynch (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) at No. 3 singles.

The Hawks have now won two straight matches heading into their Great Lakes Valley Conference finale at Drury on Friday (April 14) at 2 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
