Hawks Fall In Road Contests

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams each dropped road matches on Saturday (April 1) against separate opponents in the St. Louis area. The QU women lost a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Maryville, 8-1, while the men fell in non-league play at Lindenwood-Belleville, 6-3.

The men's team picked up a pair of wins in doubles play to take a 2-1 lead into singles competition.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Danyil Vayser (Round Lake, Ill./Gymnasium "Konsul" #86) and junior Wyatt Pauley (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) earned an 8-3 win over Lucas Roman and Horacio Cespedes.

Juniors Michael Lesko (Columbia, Ill./Gibault Catholic) and Ryan McMillan (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) were 8-4 winners over Rory Cunliffe and Gustavo Furukawa at the third doubles spot.

The Hawks (1-11) were not able to rally for the necessary three wins singles play, picking up just one victory. Junior Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) topped Cunliffe, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Lesko took his match to a third set, but fell to Sahill Yadav.

On the women's side, the Hawks (7-9, 1-2 GLVC) picked up their win at the top doubles position as senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) and junior Sydney Lynch (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) claimed an 8-5 win over Rebekah Anderson and Puck Vlaskamp.

The Hawks' matches against St. Francis (IL) scheduled for Sunday (April 2) have been postponed with the possibility of a make-up. That will be determined at a later time. QU is slated to return to the court on Friday in GLVC play against Rockhurst at Reservoir Park.
