Tennis Teams Earn 6-3 Wins Over Truman in GLVC Openers

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams each came away with 6-3 wins over visiting Truman State to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday (March 26) afternoon at Reservoir Park.
 
The QU women (7-6, 1-0 GLVC) took two of the three doubles matches, then won four of the six in singles play.
 
Senior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) and junior Sydney Lynch (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) defeated Lauren Jin and Maura Dunn at the top doubles spot, 8-4.
 
Senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) and freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Canada) were 8-6 winners at No. 3 doubles over Finessa Rassel and Elise Mousseau.
 
Kuhle beat Jin, 6-4, 6-3, at the top singles position. Lynch won a tight match against Dunn, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. McGinnis was victorious over Mousseau, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles while Kanaeva was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Rassel at No. 6 singles.
 
On the men's side, the Hawks (1-8, 1-0 GLVC) earned their first win of the season in dual match play. Like the women's team, Quincy won twice in doubles and four times in singles play on Sunday.
 
Senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/IPSE/East Central) and junior Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) won at the top singles spot, defeating Ryan Bunselmeyer and Conner Frazier, 8-4.
 
At No. 3 doubles, juniors Michael Lesko (Columbia, Ill./Gibault Catholic) and Ryan McMillan (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) defeated Griffin Turnage and Nick Thiele, in a tie-break, 9-8 (7-4).
 
Eldagsen came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bunselmeyer at the No. 1 singles spot. Adams was a 6-4, 7-5 winner at No. 3 singles over Paul Province.
 
Junior Wyatt Pauley (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) won on a third-set tiebreak over Frazier at No. 5 singles, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6). Freshman Patrick Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) also won at No. 6 singles, beating Nick Thiele, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).
 
Both teams return to the court on Tuesday (March 28) for nonconference matches at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo.
