Lions Win In Straight Sets in MIVA Match

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team resumed Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play for the first time in three weeks, falling to host Lindenwood, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20, on Saturday (March 25) afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions (4-15, 3-9 MIVA) out-hit the Hawks (5-18, 1-11 MIVA), .342 to .158.

In Set 1, the Hawks were within one point at 22-21, but Michael Chard got two straight kills to put the Lions at match point. Sophomore David Siebum (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) stemmed the tide for a point, but Sam Schindler's kill gave Lindenwood the win.

The Hawks led by as many as four, 11-7, in the second set, but a 5-0 run by Lindenwood gave the host the lead before going on to the victory. In Set 3, the Lions had a 20-19 lead after a kill by junior Anthony Winter (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/St. Edward), but Lindenwood reeled off the next five points before a service error by Quincy gave the Lions the win.

Siebum led the Hawks with 12 kills (.375), nine digs and two aces while senior Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) added seven kills (.357). Junior Thane Fanfulik (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) dished out 28 assists and had a team-best three blocks.

Blake Koppel led Lindenwood with 12 kills (.333). Connor Hipelius added eight kills (.667).

The Hawks will return to Pepsi Arena on Tuesday (March 28) at 7 p.m. to play Culver-Stockton. It will be Quincy's first home match since March 4.
