Spartans Hold Off Hawks In Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team took NAIA No. 2 Missouri Baptist to four sets, but the homestanding Spartans came away with a 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 28-26 win over the Hawks on Friday (March 24) night in St. Louis.
 
The Hawks (5-17) combined to hit just .020 in the first two sets to fall into a two sets to none hole.

Quincy rallied out of hit by hitting .250 in the third frame to come up with the victory. Junior Jacob Sheets (Arnold, Mo./Seckman) put down the finishing kill to force a fourth set.
 
In the fourth, both teams fought off set point, first the Spartans (21-2) scored two straight after the Hawks led, 24-23. With MBU holding a 26-25 advantage, sophomore David Siebum (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) kept the match going with a kill before the Spartans ended the match with two straight points.
 
Siebum and junior Anthony Winter (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/St. Edward) had 10 kills apiece while sophomore Kolbie Knorr (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) had a team-high 10 digs. The Hawks also totaled 11 blocks in the match, led by senior Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby), who had seven.
 
Missouri Baptist out-hit Quincy, .260 to .160. Luka Cajic had 15 kills to pace the Spartans.
 
The Hawks will resume Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo.
