Hawks Pound Four Home Runs, Blank Rams 12-0

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University baseball team pounded four home runs and four pitchers combined on a shutout as the Hawks blanked Albany State, 12-0, at the Nighthawks Nest Classic in Dahlonega, Ga. on Saturday (Feb. 25) afternoon.

Senior right-hander Graham Spraker (Tucson, Ariz.) struck out six batters while tossing six innings of three-hit ball to earn his first win of the season.

Sophomore T.J. Tamaccio (Boca Raton, Fla.) opened the scoring with a sac fly in the first inning that plated junior Jack Klages (Manchester, Mo.).

Quincy (4-2) broke the game open with six runs in the third inning. Senior Dominic Miles (Quincy, Ill.) rocked a two-run homer to make it 3-0. Tamaccio and senior David Hayes (Stanton, Ky.) each had RBI singles in the inning and freshman Michael Nielsen (Bloomingdale, Ill.) added a sacrifice fly.

Senior Jake Walters (St. Louis, Mo.) made it 9-0 in the fourth with a two-run homer – his fifth bomb in six games this season. Hayes started the fifth inning with a solo home run and socked a two-run blast in the seventh to cap the Hawks' scoring.

Meanwhile, Spraker cruised, needing only 65 pitches – 48 for strikes – to get through six innings. He allowed just one three-ball count against 21 batters.

Senior Dalton Doerfler, sophomore Dalton Overstreet (Hannibal, Mo.) and junior Aaron Stone (Palmyra, Mo.) each threw a scoreless inning of relief. Overstreet had a rare four-strikeout eighth inning as one of his victims reached on a wild pitch.

Four Hawks – Klages, Miles, Walters and Hayes – had multi-hit games with Hayes leading the group, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Miles, Walters and Tamaccio each drove in a pair of runs.

Chasen Roulhac (0-2) was charged with the loss for the Golden Rams (0-10), allowing seven earned runs in four innings.

The Hawks will finish their trip to Georgia on Sunday (Feb. 26) with a matchup against Florida Tech. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. CT.
