Hawks Falter Against Flyers on Friday

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's and men's tennis teams were in action on Friday (Feb. 24) against Lewis at the Quincy Racquet Club. The Flyers defeated the Hawks in both matches, 9-0, in the women's match and 8-1 on the men's side.

WOMEN: Lewis 9, Quincy 0

The Hawks (5-6) won five games in doubles play against the Flyers (3-1) with senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) and freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Canada) faring the best at No. 3 doubles, falling to Hailey Bruining and Claudia Maka, 6-3.

In singles play, senior Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) took Oana Trus to three sets, but ultimately lost in a very tight match, 2-6, 6-0, 11-9, at the No. 2 position.

MEN: Lewis 8, Quincy 1

The Hawks (0-7) picked up their lone win on Friday at the No. 6 singles spot as freshman Patrick Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) earned a 6-0, 2-6, 10-3 win over Anton Levitin.

The Flyers (6-2) swept doubles play with senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/East Central) and Collin Adams (Quincy, Ill.) falling to Mate Srdanovic and Alan Braschinsky, 6-4, in the tightest match at the No. 1 position.

All five other singles matches went in straight sets.

The QU women's team will return to action on Sunday (Feb. 26) against Webster. Doubles play begins at 11 a.m. at the Quincy Racquet Club.
