Women' Basketball Lose Heartbreaker In Double Overtime

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks and Trevecca Nazarene Trojans were forced to go to double overtime to decided their contest Saturday (Nov. 11) night.  

The Hawks fell to the Trojans 69-61.  

Both QU and Trevecca struggled from the field as neither team shot over 30%.  

QU held an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.  

Anika Webster (Springfield, IL./ Springfield) scored the Hawks first five points in the second quarter as the Hawks led 16-12 with 8:41 in remaining in the half.  

QU extend its lead to 20-12 with 7:42 to go in the second quarter.  

The Trojans outscored the Hawks 16-7 to finish the second quarter to take a 28-27 lead into the half.  

The Hawks fell behind 41-33 with 4 minutes remaining in the third quarter.  

The Ruzevich sisters combined for nine points in the last four minutes to give the Hawks a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.  

Kate Ruzevich's (Orland Park, IL / Marist) jumper with six seconds remaining in the third brought the score to 46-44.  

With 27 seconds remaining the Trojans knocked down a three-pointer to take a 53-50 lead.  

The Hawks tied the game on a three-pointer by Maddie Spagnola (Elgin, IL / St. Edward Central) with just 10 seconds remaining.  

The Trojans had a chance to win the game with seven seconds remaining but missed a pair of free throws and a three-point field goal as time expired. 

The Hawks and Trojans went to overtime tied 53-53. 

QU got off to a quick start, taking a six-point lead with three minutes to play.  

Trevecca responded by trimming the lead to 60-58 with 48 seconds to play.  

A turnover by the Hawks gave the Trojans the ball back with 30 seconds remaining.  

After a foul by QU, the Trojans knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game.  

The Hawks had a chance to win the game but had a shot clock violation just before the overtime period ended and would go to a second overtime.  

QU was outscored 9-1 in the second overtime and fell to the Trojans 69-61.  

QU falls to 0-2 on the season.
