Winona State Hot Shooting Too Much For Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the Winona State Warriors 69-59 Friday night (Nov. 17) in the first game of the Subway Tip-Off Classic.  

The Warriors hot shooting was too much for the Hawks despite strong performances from Anika Webster and Jessie Rabas.  

The Hawks were forced to play from behind after a fast start by Winona State.  The Warriors held a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.   

QU trailed by as many as 20 in the second quarter.  The Hawks trimmed the lead to 11 by the end of half. 

QU knocked down five three-pointers, three by Rabas, in the second quarter

Both teams struggled to score to open the second half.  

QU opened up a 10-0 run at the 5:45 mark to cut the lead to 43-41 with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter. 

The Warriors responded with a 8-0 run to end the third quarter and hold a 51-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  

With 8:20 remaining in the game, Jessica Merino hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 53-46.  

The Hawks could bring the lead no closer and fell to the Warriors by 10.  

Rabas poured in four three-pointers, finishing with 12 points.  

Webster led all scorers with 20 points on 7-11 shooting.  Webster also hit four three-pointers. 

The Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season.  QU plays Upper Iowa tomorrow (Nov. 18) at 3 p.m.
