Hawks Win In OT Over Upper Iowa

QUINCY, Ill. - Regulation was not enough time to decide a winner in the final game of the Subway Tip-Off Classic between the Quincy University Hawks and the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University.  

The Hawks fell behind early in the first quarter.  Upper Iowa grabbed an 18-4 lead through the first six minutes of action.  

QU trimmed the lead to 26-15 at the end of the opening quarter.  

Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter as the teams combined to score just 17 points.  QU outscored the Peacocks 11-6 in the quarter and trailed 32-26 at the end of the first half.  

With 5:06 remaining in the third quarter, Taylor Hickey knocked down a three-pointer to give the Hawks their first lead of the game at 37-35.  

Ashley Rosenstiel put the Peacocks back on top with a three of her own to put Upper Iowas up 38-37.  

Another three by Upper Iowa extended the lead to 41-37.  

Hickey drained another three to cut the lead to just one.  

Anika Webster drained a jumper with five seconds remaining in the third quarter to put the Hawks ahead 42-41.  

With 7:03 in the fourth quarter, Upper Iowa took 45-42 lead.  

Alexsandra Petrovic knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game with 6:16 to play. 

The Peacocks took a 50-47 lead with 2:05 to play. 

A layup by Jennifer Warfield cut the lead to one.  Taylor Hickey poured in her fifth three-pointer of the game to give the Hawks a 52-50 lead with 46 seconds to play.  

A pair of Upper Iowa free throws tied the game with 30 seconds remaining. 

Michaela Gronewold's three-pointer was off the mark on the Hawks last-second attempt and the teams would decide the game over time.  

The Hawks held the Peacocks scoreless in the overtime period and won the game 64-52.  

Taylor Hickey led the Hawks with 22 points, going 6-10 from behind the arc. 

QU improved to 1-3 on the season.  

Anika Webster was named to the all-tournament team, totaling 32 points and 17 rebounds in the tournament.  

Winona State was the Tip-Off Classic champion, winning both its games over Quincy and McKendree.
