QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team lost to Grand Valley State 59-57 Saturday (Nov. 11) night.
The Hawks got off to a quick start as Tanner Stuckman (Quincy, IL / Quincy Notre Dame) knocked down a three-pointer on the Hawks first possession of the game.
After a jumper put Grand Valley up 13-9 with 15:47 remaining in the first half both teams went scoreless for the next two minutes.
Marsalis Johnson (North Hills, CA) knocked down a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 13-11.
Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net for the next 10 minutes of action.
With the score 28-23 in favor of Grand Valley, Marcus Hinton (Florissant, MO / Hazelwood Central) made a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 28-25.
After a missed three-pointer by the Grand Valley, Tanner Stuckman hit a three-pointer to tied the game at 28 all.
Stuckman scored again to give the Hawks a 30-28 lead with 1:26 remaining in the first half.
Grand Valley tied the game at 30-30 with 40 seconds to play in the first half.
Bobby Frasco (Mt. Prospect, IL / Prospect) missed a three-pointer as time expired and the Hawks and Lakers went into the half tied at 30.
The Hawks and Lakers back and forth action continued into the second half.
With 8:45 remaining in the half the Hawks took a 48-46 lead on a Stuckman jumper.
Grand Valley managed to take a one-point lead with 4:03 remaining in the game.
Neither team score for the next 2:57 of game time.
Grand Valley extended its lead on a jumper by Myles Miller with 1:06 to play.
Hinton scored to bring the lead to just one with 46 seconds remaining.
The Lakers hit a three-pointer to push the lead to 59-55.
Stuckman scored again to bring the deficit to 59-57.
After a Ryan Briscoe (St. Charles, MO / Duchesne) steal the Hawks had a chance to tie the game with five seconds remaining.
Marcus Hinton's jumper was off the mark and the Hawks fell to the Lakers 59-57.
QU falls to 0-2 on the season.
