Early Goal By Rief Sets Tone In Hawks 2-0 Win.

QUINCY, Ill. - Mackenzie Rief's (Wentzville, MO./ St. Dominic) header in the second minute of play set the early tone for the Hawks 2-0 win over conference opponent Indianapolis Friday night (Hawktober 13).

Rief scored on a corner kick from Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, MO / Nerinx Hall) that was sent into the box about four yards from goal.  The goal was Rief's fifth of the season and second in the first five minutes of play.

The kept the offensive pressure for the remainder of the first half tallying nine shots. The Greyhounds were able to take five shots in the first half with three being on goal.  Senior goalkeeper Megan Swanson made all three saves to keep the 1-0 lead headed into the half.

In the 60th minute, Rief made a quick run down the left side of the field into the 18-yard box.  She sent a cross into the middle and Cassidy Foley (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) buried the cross into the back of the net to put the Hawks up 2-0.  The goal was Foley's third of the season.

Swanson kept the Greyhounds off the scoreboard, making four more saves in the second half and totaled seven in the game.

The Hawks improved to 11-2, 9-1 in the GLVC to maintain their hold atop the GLVC conference standings.

Rief now leads the Hawks with five goals and Swanson picked up her 9th shutout of the season.
