Hawks Sweep Loras In Final Non-MIVA Tune-Up

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team picked up its second straight win, sweeping Loras, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18, on Wednesday (Jan. 25) night at Pepsi Arena in the Hawks' final tune-up before Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play begins Saturday night.

The Hawks (2-4) hit .333 in the opening set and finished with a .226 mark on the night, while holding the Duhawks (2-1) to a .061 mark.

Quincy never trailed in the first two sets. The Hawks used a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 late in the first set. They also ran off five straight points in Set 2 to break a 15-15 tie and take a commanding 20-15 lead. Junior Anthony Winter (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/St. Edward) had a kill in that stretch and sophomore David Siebum (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) added a kill and a solo block.

The Hawks trailed in Set 3, 13-12, before reeling off four straight points to take a 16-13 lead they would not give up. QU tallied six of their eight blocks in the final frame, getting a solo block by freshman Blake Sprecher (Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton) and a double block by Sprecher and junior Shane McAdams (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge/San Diego City) to close the match.

Siebum led the Hawks with 10 kills (.300) while McAdams chipped in six kills (.556). Winter totaled five kills (.167) and matched a team-high with four digs. Junior Thane Fanfulik (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) dished out 16 assists and sophomore Noah Randall (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) had nine.

Quincy was helped by Loras' 21 service errors. Dylan Ross led the visitors with seven kills (.214).

The Hawks will return to the floor on Saturday (Jan. 28) when they welcome Lindenwood to open MIVA play. The Lions (0-5, 0-2 MIVA) started conference play last week at Grand Canyon by dropping a pair of matches to the Lopes. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
