Hawks Open MIVA Play With Efficient 3-1 Win Over Lions

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team opened Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play on Saturday (Jan. 28) night with a 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 win over visiting Lindenwood at Pepsi Arena.
 
The Hawks (3-4, 1-0 MIVA) have now won three straight matches heading into next week's showdowns at nationally-ranked Lewis and Loyola-Chicago.
 
On Saturday, the Hawks were efficient back to front with sophomore libero Kolbie Knorr (Wheaton, Ill./Warrensville South) turning up 16 digs and helping the Hawks hit a season-high .300 for the match.
 
The main offensive beneficiary was sophomore David Siebum (St. Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney), who rattled off the best match of his season with 16 kills against just one error and a .536 hitting percentage.
 
The Hawks got eight kills each from senior Jarrod Kelso (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and junior Shane McAdams (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge/San Diego City). Kelso hit .389 for the match and had a season-high eight blocks, including two solo blocks.
 
Junior setter Thane Fanfulik (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) dished out 39 assists, but was also perfect on seven attacks (1.000) and added five digs and three blocks. As a team, the Hawks finished with a season-high 13 blocks, their most since they had 14 in a win over Graceland on March 8, 2016.
 
Junior Anthony Winter (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/St. Edward) tacked on seven kills (.080), five digs and three blocks.
 
Sam Schindler led the Lions (0-7, 0-4 MIVA) with 17 kills (.367). Lindenwood hit .227 on the night.
 
The Hawks will now hit the road beginning Friday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. when they travel to No. 6 Lewis.
