Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ryan Snyder

#21 Rockhurst Sends Quincy To Road Defeat, 1-0

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team travelled to Kansas City Friday (Sept. 30) to take on undefeated Rockhurst, but the hosts came away with a 1-0 win.

The Quincy Hawks came out of the gates quickly with four shots in the first 16 minutes but none found the back of the net.

The Quincy defense was stout in the first half allowing no shots on goal for the Hawks of Rockhurst.  Sophomore Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) had a late shot on goal at the end of the first half but was turned away by Rockhurst.  Both teams headed to the locker room tied at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of action.

In the 62nd minute, Rockhurst (9-0-1, 6-0-1 GLVC) got on the board as Brandi Vollmer took a shot from 15 yards out that caromed off the crossbar and into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.

Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) tried to answer just two minutes later but another save by Rockhurst goalie Ali Wallner kept the score 1-0 in favor of Rockhurst.

Quincy (2-5-2, 2-4-1 GLVC) led in almost every offensive category but it wasn't enough as the Hawks couldn't answer the goal by Rockhurst.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) was tested just three times in the game, making two saves.

Pulliam had three shots for Quincy and junior Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafeyette) had two shots in her first game back from injury.

The Hawks will complete their road trip Sunday (Hawktober 2) as the head to William Jewell to take on the Cardinals.
