QU Women Triumph Over Missouri Valley, Men Fall

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's and men's tennis teams were in action on Wednesday (Sept. 28) afternoon at Reservoir Park, taking on Missouri Valley in nonconference action.

The women's team came away with a 7-2 win, while the men fell by an identical score.

The women got two wins in doubles play as seniors Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) and Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) picked up a win at the No. 1 position. Junior Rebecca McIsaac (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleville East) and freshman Rita Kanaeva (Toronto, Ontario) won in the No. 3 spot.

The Hawks won five of the six spots in singles play. Kuhle was a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 winner over Lilian Blasque in the No. 1 singles position. Kuenzi defeated Reevaw Lewis, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. McIsaac swept Beatriz Sales, 6-1, 6-3, in the fourth singles position.

At No. 5 singles, senior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) was victorious over Jelica Stamatovic, 6-1, 6-0.

On the men's side, the Hawks were only able to pick up two wins. Senior Erik Eldagsen (Santa Coloma de Cervello, Spain/IPSE/East Central University) won at the top singles spot, 6-3, 6-2, over Stefano Benedetti.

Eldagsen and junior Ryan McMillan (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) paired up to beat Marc Kerndl and Benedikt Voelker, in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-4).

One other singles matches went to three sets as junior Michael Lesko (Columbia, Ill./Gibault Catholic) fell to Gabriel Pozo, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, at the No. 5 singles position.

The match wrapped up the fall schedules for both teams, which will resume their slates in the spring semester.
