Lady Hawks Secure 2-0 Win With Second Half Goals

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team played through a sweltering heat in the first half on Friday (Sept. 23) night at Legends Stadium. When the heat broke after halftime, so did the Lady Hawks' offense as QU scored twice in the second half to wipe out Missouri S&T, 2-0.

Sophomore forward Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) notched her first goal in a Quincy uniform, burying a shot from outside the box in the 49th minute to give the Lady Hawks a 1-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) notched her first career assist.

Junior midfielder Katie Heiligenstein (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) put the game away in the 89th minute as she knocked in a header off a free kick from Foley. It was Heiligenstein's first career goal and Foley's first assist of the season.

The Lady Hawks (2-3-2, 2-2-1 GLVC) dominated for much of the game, outshooting the Miners (1-4, 1-3 GLVC), 19-6, including a 9-1 count in the first half. Quincy also owned an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Foley led Quincy with five shots while Rooney and sophomore forward Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) had four each.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) needed to make four saves to preserve her second shutout of the season.

The Lady Hawks return to Legends Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 25) at noon to take on Drury.
