QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team responded to a second half goal by Bellarmine in 36 seconds and earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie in two overtimes against the ninth-ranked team in the country on Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon at Legends Stadium.

--- Records: Quincy 1-3-2, 1-2-1 GLVC; Bellarmine 4-1-1, 2-1-1 GLVC

How It Happened
--- The Lady Hawks had a couple of early chances, including a shot by freshman midfielder Alex Severino (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) that was cleared off the line in the eighth minute. Seconds later, sophomore Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) had a shot saved by BU goalkeeper Hannah Poteet.

--- QU controlled much of the play in the first half as goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) was tested just once in the first 45 minutes.

--- Bellarmine began to assert itself more in the second half and broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute as Caroline Lee sent a short pass to Lauren Holder, who had space in the box and fired a strike to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

--- The Lady Hawks answered in 36 seconds. Sophomore forward Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka) centered a ball from the left side to Severino. The freshman then drove her shot from 21 yards off the underside of the crossbar and it ricocheted on the goal side of the line to tie the game at 1-1. It was Severino's first career goal and Pulliam's second assist of the year.

--- After the goal, the Knights applied plenty of pressure and put the Lady Hawks on their heels, especially in the final five minutes. QU was able to see out regulation and send it to overtime.

--- Quincy had a chance late in the first overtime as freshman defender/midfielder Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) sent in a corner kick in the final seconds and freshman Baylee Smith (Rochester, Ill.) had her shot saved by a BU defender.

--- Neither team had a shot on goal in the second overtime.

QU's Top Performers
--- The back line of junior Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall), junior Allison Birke (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic/SLU), sophomore Gabby Orlando (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) and senior Brianna Andert (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) kept reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Mary Beth Gorham in check. She attempted just one shot and it was not on goal. The Knights had just three shots on goal in the game.

--- Pulliam created problems for the Knights defense on the wing, penetrating the penalty area on a regular basis.

Stats of the Game
--- On a sweltering mid-September day, Birke, Orlando, Greubel and Severino all played more than 100 minutes.

--- The teams were even in total shots, 10-10, and QU held a lead in shots on goal, 6-3, and corner kicks, 6-4.

Up Next
