Lady Hawks Can't Find Equalizer in Road Defeat

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team surrendered an early goal against McKendree and the Lady Hawks were not able to equalize as the Bearcats came away with a 1-0 win in Lebanon, Ill. on Sunday (Sept. 11).

The Lady Hawks (0-3-1, 0-2 GLVC), which opened the season with a 1-1 tie against Ohio Dominican, are still searching for their first win despite out-shooting their opponents in each of the first four games of the season. All three of the Lady Hawks' losses have been by 1-0 tallies.

Quincy was dangerous up top for most of the afternoon, out-shooting McKendree, 19-14, and putting 10 shots on goal, but Bearcats' goalkeeper Zoe Brochu made all 10 stops.

McKendree (3-1, 1-1 GLVC) scored the game's lone goal in the eighth minute as Sydnee Carroll received a throw-in in the box. The ball wound up in a scrum in the area and Carroll won it back before placing her shot past QU keeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic).

The Lady Hawks had several chances to get the equalizer with eight players taking a shot on goal, but their elusive goal could not be found.

The game was a physical affair with 35 fouls called and four yellow cards issued. Swanson made five saves for Quincy.

The Lady Hawks will now return to Legends Stadium to start a four-game homestand on Friday (Sept. 16) when they will take on Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.
