Lady Hawks Edge Truman in Dual Match Opener

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's tennis team opened up dual match play on Saturday (Sept. 10) afternoon at the QU Tennis Courts and pulled out a narrow 5-4 victory over rival Truman State in nonconference action.

The Lady Hawks (1-0) started the match by dropping two of the three doubles matches, but they rallied with four wins in singles to secure the win. Three of the singles matches went to decisive third sets.

Amy Kuhle was one of those three-set winners, defeating Lauren Jin, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, at first singles. In the next singles spot, Sydney Lynch also needed three sets to dispatch Marisa Thome, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.

Morgan McGinnis was a winner at fifth singles with a straight-set win over Maura Dunn, 6-0, 6-3. Abby Moore also picked up a two-set win over Finessa Rassel, 6-2, 6-3.

Quincy's lone win in doubles play came in the No. 3 spot as Rebecca McIsaac and Rita Kanaeva toppled Rassel and Elise Mousseau, 8-3.

The women return to tournament play next weekend, playing host to the QU Fall Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 16-17).
