What Went Down
  • The Lady Hawks looked bright early, showing the ability to open up the ODU defense. In the fifth minute, junior forward Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) made a run that exposed the Panthers' back line. Her driving shot rattled off the crossbar, but the rebound directed straight to sophomore forward Abby Pulliam (St. Louis, Mo./Eureka), who powered a header past Marissa Wierzbicki in goal.

  • The Panthers settled in after the goal and were able to dominate much of the possession in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

  • Their play was rewarded just two minutes after halftime as Becca Gordon delivered a goal from the top of the box to tie the game at 1-1.

  • The remainder of the game, including the two overtimes, was a battle as both teams looked in midseason form. Each team had significant chances, but neither could produce a winner.

  • Sophomore Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) struck the crossbar in the 103rd minute on a long shot from distance. The trio of Pulliam, Rief and Foley were dangerous most of the night, combining for 13 shots.

Top QU Performers
  • Junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) made eight saves in a terrific effort in keeping the game deadlocked in the second half. Six of her saves came in the last 65 minutes.

  • Pulliam opened the register for the Lady Hawks, while Rief was credited with the assist.

  • Freshmen midfielders Alex Severino (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) and Baylee Smith (Rochester, Ill.) and freshman defender Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) all made their collegiate debuts and looked impressive. Severino played 107 minutes in the defensive midfield, while Smith and Rooney combined to play 79 minutes off the bench.

Stats of the Game
  • The Lady Hawks out-shot the Panthers, 16-15, and the teams were even with nine shots on goal apiece. QU had five shots in the overtime sessions.
