What Went Down
  • Ashland's Morgan Bittengle receieved a pass near midfield and completed her weaving run by firing a shot past QU keeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) in the 87th minute.

  • Prior to that point, the Lady Hawks' defense was stout against a high-powered Ashland attack that features Bittengle, a two-time all-region player, and Deijah Swihart, the reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

  • Quincy did not allow a shot until the 54th minute and Bittengle's goal was Ashland's first shot on goal in the game.

  • The Lady Hawks absorbed some pressure in the opening minutes, but once they were able to establish possession, they looked on the verge of scoring.

  • Junior defender Bailey Greubel (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) nearly scored on a set piece corner kick, but was denied by AU keeper Courtney Barker in the 20th minute.

  • Just minutes later, sophomore attacker Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) had her driven shot saved by a diving Barker. The rebound fell to junior forward Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic), but her shot rolled across the goal mouth, just wide.

  • QU continued to push after halftime, but the Eagles saw more of the ball in the second half and the visitors controlled the last 15 minutes.

QU Top Performers
  • Junior forward Mackenzie Rief (Wentzville, Mo./St. Dominic) led Quincy with four shots, including three on goal, while Foley and junior wing Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) had two shots apiece.

  • The back four of Greubel, junior Allison Birke (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic), sophomore Gabby Orlando (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) and senior Brianna Andert (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) were solid in limiting the Eagles' chances in the first half.
