Hawks Start Midwest Regional with 20-0 Rout of Battlers

QUINCY, Ill. - The top seeded Quincy University baseball team took advantage of hosting the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at their home field of QU Stadium with a 20-0 win over eight seed Alderson Broaddus University on Thursday, May 19. Jake Peterson tossed a gem to start the tournament on the bump for QU. Ryan Snyder homered twice and tied the QU record for RBI in a single season with 85.

Peterson (W, 6-3) tossed seven innings of shutout baseball totaling 72 pitches. Peterson scattered three hits and struck out six. The lefty gave way to Brock Best in the eighth. Best finished the shutout  against Alderson Broaddus (31-20) with a strike out and two hits over two innings.

The Quincy (38-16) lineup was on fire today. Every hitter had at least one hit with seven Hawks having a multi-hit game.

David Jacob was 4-for-6 with four RBI in the game. Jacob doubled in the fourth inning to clear the bases for three RBI.

Ryan Snyder hit his 21st and 22nd home runs of the season. The first went to right field in the sixth inning. Snyder went deep to left field in the eighth inning to tie the QU record for RBI in a single season with his 85th RBI. Snyder had five RBI in a 3-for-5 effort from the plate.

Dominic Miles was 3-for5 with a double and three RBI. Brynn Martinez also collected three hits with a double. Martinez finished with two RBI.

Jake Walters, Justin Blechle, and Troy Wehde each collected two hits.

The Hawks advance to play the fourth seed, University of Southern Indiana, on Friday, May 20 at 5 p.m. at QU Stadium in Quincy, Ill. USI defeated Missouri S&T, 7-5, earlier today.
