Offensive Explosion in Game Two Gives Hawks Split at UMSL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The No. 9 Quincy University baseball team earned a split on Saturday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis after a 17-6 win in game two. UMSL topped QU 5-3 in game one. Jake Walters, Ryan Snyder, and David Jacob each had a home run in the doubleheader. Brandon Ley earned the win in game two allowing one earned run.

The fourth inning busted game two open for the Hawks (19-8, 5-5 GLVC). Dominic Miles led off with a double to center field. Miles later scored on an error by the Triton (20-8, 5-5 GLVC) third baseman. TJ Tamaccio singled home two runs to give QU a 4-1 lead. Justin Blechle followed with a two RBI triple to right center. David Jacob knocked in another run on a fielder's choice. QU scored their eighth and ninth run of the inning when the UMSL shortstop dropped a pop up.

The Hawks continued their offensive onslaught when Miles doubled to to left field to score Tamaccio and Brynn Martinez. Jacob and Snyder hit back-to-back home runs in the following two at bats. 

Brandon Ley (W, 3-0) tossed five innings scattering four hits and two walks to allow one run. Ley finished with two strikeouts.

The Hawks went on to win game two 17-6.

Kurt McGuire (W, 5-1) led UMSL to a 5-3 win in game one. McGuire tossed seven innings and allowed three runs. He struck out eight in the game.

Tom DeCero hit a home run in the first inning to give UMSL the lead. The Tritons added two runs in the third inning. 

David Jacob doubled to right center in the fourth inning to score Miles. Jake Walters cracked a two-run homer to left field in the next at bat to tie the game.

Zach McKenny hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Nick Ulrey in the fifth. The Tritons scored another run in the inning on a dropped fly ball in left field.

The Tritons took the first game 5-3.

The Hawks and Tritons play their second doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m.
