Quincy Wins Series with Saturday Split Against Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 10 Quincy University baseball team took 3-of-4 from Rockhurst University this weekend after a doubleheader split on Saturday. Rain pushed the start time and Senior Day festivities back two hours. More rain and lightning forced delays in game two. Quincy took game one 5-3, but fell in a rain delay lengthened game two 9-2.

Jake Peterson (W, 5-3) started game one for QU (33-11, 17-7 GLVC) on Senior Day. Peterson threw six innings allowing one earned run off four hits. The senior southpaw tossed eight strike outs and walked no one.

Rockhurst (24-21, 15-9 GLVC) scored two runs in the third inning off a single by Henry Weiler and a passed ball that scored Weiler later in the inning.

Quincy answered in the fifth inning. After one out, Justin Blechle singled to shortstop. Rockhurst's second baseman committed an error to put two runners on. Brynn Martinez doubled to right center to score Blechle and advance David Hayes to third.

Dominic Miles singled to right field to score Martinez and Hayes and give QU a 3-2 lead.

With one out in the sixth, Ryan Snyder singled to center. Matt Hilmes followed with a double down the right field line. Justin Blechle singled to score Snyder and Hilmes pushing the QU lead to 5-2.

Teddy Rule (S, 4) allowed one earned run in one inning on the mound for his fourth save of the season. Rule allowed three hits and struck out one.

Quincy took the lead to start game two with an RBI single from David Jacob to score Martinez in the first inning.

Rockhurst scored on a field error by Quincy in the second inning to tie the game 1-1.

Following the first rain delay of game two, Ryan Snyder hit a solo home run to right field to retake the lead for Quincy. It was Snyder's 18th home run of the season. The home run was also the 69th home run of the season for the QU team setting a new school record for most home runs in a season.

Joey Mancuso tripled in the fifth inning to clear the bases and score three runs. Mancuso scored on a passed ball to give Rockhurst a 5-2 lead.

Rockhurst would score four more runs after another rain delay to win game two 9-2.

The Hawks hit the road next week on Tuesday, May 3 to play Northwest Missouri State University. The Hawks will play one game at 3 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.
