No. 10 Hawks Pick Up Midweek Road Win at Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 10 Quincy University baseball team went on the road for a 11-8 midweek win at Northwest Missouri State University on Tuesday, May 3. QU hit four home runs and Teddy Rule picked up his fifth save of the season in Maryville, Mo.

The Hawks (34-11) jumped out to a two run lead in the first inning with a pair of solo home runs. Dominic Miles went deep to left field for his seventh homer of the season. Two hitters later, Jake Walters smashed his 11th home run down the left field line.

The Bearcats (24-23) answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. With the bases load, Kevin Handzlik hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. Jake Lewis came up next and hit a three run homer down the right field line to give Northwest Missouri State a 4-2 lead.

Matt Hilmes tied the game up in the top of the sixth with a two run home run to right center. Hilmes busted the game open in the top of the seventh inning with his second home run of the game. Hilmes' fifth home run of the season was a three run bomb left center field to give the Hawks a 11-4 lead.

Prior to Hilmes' homer, the Hawks scored four runs off RBI singles in the seventh from Brynn Martinez, Dominic Miles, Jake Walters, and Ryan Snyder. QU scored seven runs total in the seventh.

The Bearcats closed the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when James Holler knocked a two run single up the middle. Kevin Handzlik singled to center field to score two more runs to pull within 11-8.

Teddy Rule shut the door in the seventh inning with three straight strike outs for his fifth save of the season.

Kraig Gielow (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the season in an inning of the relief in the sixth. 

The Hawks play at William Jewell College in the final four games of the regular season. The Great Lakes Valley Conference series is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, with doubleheaders starting at noon.
