Hawks Split Sunday with Miners to Even Series, 2-2

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 8 Quincy University baseball team fell to Missouri S&T in game one of a Sunday doubleheader, 14-6, but turned around for a 15-4 win in game two. QU knocked out another five home runs in the doubleheader. Ryan Snyder boosted his home run total to 10. Snyder is now hitting .495 this season after collecting 14 hits in five games this week. The senior right fielder leads the team with 46 RBI through 25 games this season.

The Hawk (18-7, 4-4 GLVC) offense exploded in game two on Sunday.

Snyder singled in two runs up the middle in the first inning, and was brought home on a homer from Matt Hilmes to right field. Hilmes boosted his average to .429 going 2-for-5 in game two.

Jake Walters blasted his seventh home run of the season down the left field line of the two-run variety in the fifth inning. Justin Blechle connected on a three-run bomb over the wall in right center for his sixth homer of the season. The Hawks finished the fifth inning with eight runs.

QU went on to win game two 15-4. Mark Niebrugge (W, 3-1) tossed six innings of one run baseball. Niebrugge scattered four hits and walked one Miner (18-9, 5-3 GLVC) while striking out nine hitters. 

The QU pitching staff struggled in game one allowing nine earned runs. Braden Shull (L, 3-1) allowed five earned runs in an inning and a third.

The Miners scattered 13 hits to total 14 runs while taking advantage of four Quincy errors.

David Jacob and Ryan Snyder both homered in the sixth inning. Jacob crushed a two-run shot out to right field. Snyder left the building to left center field with a solo shot.

QU scratched across three more runs in the seventh inning, but fell 14-6.

Aaron Bedsworth (W, 5-2) tossed a complete game allowing three earned runs for the Miners. Bedsworth scattered seven hits and allowed five walks, but was able to neutralize the QU offense with six strikeouts.

The Hawks travel to St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday, April 9th to face the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference four-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
