Lady Hawks Pick Up 11th Win Over UIS

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams were in action for nonconference matches at Illinois Springfield on Monday (April 25) afternoon in the state capital.

The women's team came away with an 8-1 win over the Prairie Stars while the men lost to the hosts, 6-3. The women improved to 11-10 on the season. The men slipped to 6-11 overall.

The Lady Hawks swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead into the singles matches. At first doubles junior Elizabeth Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and sophomore Rebecca McIsaac (Fairview Heights, Ill./Belleville East) won, 8-2 over Jane Carter and Faith Hook.

The duo of junior Amy Kuhle (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) and sophomore Sydney Lynch (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) was a winner at No. 2 doubles over Jasmin Morgan and Sharon Danquah, 8-1. Finally, senior Anna Morrissey (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) and junior Morgan McGinnis (Edwardsville, Ill.) were winners at third doubles, 8-1, against Danielle Mendoza and Katelyn Michl.

The Lady Hawks were just one set from sweeping the singles matches as well. Kuhle topped Carter at the top singles spot, 6-4, 6-3. Kuenzi won at second singles, 6-4, 6-1, over Danquah. Morrissey beat Hook, 6-2, 6-4, at fourth singles, Lynch defeated Mendoza, 6-1, 6-1, at fifth singles, and McGinnis claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Michl in the No. 6 spot. McIsaac took Morgan to three sets, but fell, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.

On the men's side, the Hawks were only able to pick up one win in doubles play. At the third doubles spot, senior Chris Bueler (Hannibal, Mo.) and freshman Danyil Vayser (Round Lake, Ill./Gymnasium Konsul #86) knocked off Grant Fitzsimmons and Santiago Pedraza, 8-6.

The Hawks picked up a pair of wins in singles play. Bueler won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4, defeating Ajay Bandreddy. Sophomore Ryan McMillan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) was the winner at No. 5 singles, defeating Fitzsimmons, 6-4, 6-1.

Both teams wrap up the regular season with their home finale on Wednesday (April 27) against Lewis & Clark. The match is set for 1 p.m.
