Snyder Sets QU Home Run Record in Sunday Sweep of Maryville

QUINCY, Ill. - After 57 years of Quincy University baseball, Ryan Snyder is the first student-athlete to hit 17 home runs in a single season, passing Kevin Sewell who hit 16 homers in 2004. Snyder hit his record-breaking bomb in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Maryville University on Sunday, Apr. 24. QU won game one 13-2 and followed with a game two 16-6 win that featured a 10-run eighth inning.

The Hawks (30-10, 14-6 GLVC) did not wait long to get on the board in game one. Jake Walters doubled to left center field to score Dominic Miles and David Jacob. Ryan Snyder followed with his record setting 17th home run on an 0-2 pitch that went out to left center field. The QU dugout and Hawks fans gave Snyder a standing ovation as he crossed home plate.

Five Hawks had multiple hits and RBI in the first game. Dominic Miles went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

The Hawks tied the game up in the second inning when Jake Walters homered to left field. David Jacob knocked a two-run home run to right field in the fifth inning to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. Ryan Snyder singled up the middle to score Walters from second base in the fifth.

The Saints tied the game in the seventh inning on a wild pitch and a two-run double by Mitch Carriger.

The Hawks added two runs in the seventh inning capped by a Dominic Miles RBI single to left center.

The Saints countered right back in the eighth inning scoring on a balk and a single by Tyler Omlid to tie the game at six a piece.

The Hawks exploded in the bottom of the eighth to score 10 runs. Troy Wehde hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run error on the second baseman. Brynn Martinez singled to deep left field to score Wehde from second. Three batters later, Jake Walters cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line. Snyder followed with an RBI double to left field. JP Meyer connected on a two-run homer to left to score Snyder for the 10th run of the inning.
