Hawks Roll Over Hannibal-LaGrange, 12-1

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 9 Quincy University baseball team played a midweek game against Hannibal-LaGrange University from across the Mississippi River on Tuesday, Apr. 12. QU took the lead early and never looked back for a 12-1 win over HLGU.

Oswald Silvestre (W, 1-0) earned his first win a year and seven months after an injury held him out of the starting slot. Silvestre tossed five innings of one run baseball allowing four hits. The senior right-hander's control was great today allowing no walks and just one hit batter. Silvestre induced 13 ground outs including a 4-6-3 double play.

Brynn Martinez got the game started for the Hawks (22-8) with a push-bunt single perfectly placed past the pitcher. The bases would load up with no outs for Ryan Snyder. Snyder turned around a fastball at the belt over the left center field wall for a grand slam. It was Snyder's 12th homer of the season.

Snyder singled in the second inning to pick up his fifth RBI of the game and 55th RBI of the season.

JP Meyer crushed a ball to left field in the fourth inning that scored three-runs to give QU a 9-0 lead.

The Trojans (5-35) scored their lone tally in the fifth inning when a double play was broken up at second base to allow Eduardo Ibarra to score.

A combination of Jake Hemphill, Cole Crawford, and Nate Perez got the Hawks through the final four innings on the mound. The trio scattered five hits and allowed one walk with one strike out to hold Hannibal-LaGrange to just one run in the game.

The Hawks had 15 hits as five Hawks claimed multi-hit games.

QU will travel to Springfield, Mo. this weekend to play Drury University in a four-game set starting with a doubleheader Saturday, Apr. 16 at noon.
