Hawks Continue Strong Start with Saturday Sweep at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Quincy University baseball team secured a Saturday sweep with a pair of wins in Louisville, Ky. over Bellarmine University in a doubleheader. Jake Peterson pitched a complete game shutout in the first game to lock up a 6-0 win. The bats earned the win in game two with an 11-4 victory. 

Peterson (W, 2-0) was stellar on the mound for QU (5-0) allowing five hits with five strikeouts in nine innings. 

Peterson was backed up by David Jacob and the Hawk offense to the tune of six runs. Jacob was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a solo home run. Jake Walters drove in two runs. TJ Tamaccio was 2-for-4 with an RBI. David Hayes went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game shutout win.

The Hawks took the lead over Bellarmine (3-5) in the first inning of game two when Ryan Snyder connected on a three-run homer to center field.

Graham Spraker (W, 1-0) ran into trouble in the second and third inning allowing an RBI double in the second and a two-run home run and a run scoring single in the third. Spraker was able to pitch out of trouble and extend his start to six innings. The junior allowed three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.

The Hawks exploded in the fourth inning starting with a solo homer from Jake Walters to left center. Ryan Snyder singled and eventually scored on a single from JP Meyer. Justin Blechle tripled down the left field line with two outs to score Meyer. Brynn Martinez singled to score Blechle. Then, Martinez stole second and scored on a Dominic Miles single.

Miles picked up two more RBI in the sixth inning on a single to right center with the bases loaded.

Miles finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. Ryan Snyder was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Justin Blechle was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI.

The Hawks will face Bellarmine again tomorrow (Mar. 6) in Louisville, Ky. for another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. CT.
