Hawks Sweep Bulldogs to Split Weekend

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy University baseball team earned a split at Truman State University with a Saturday sweep of TSU. QU took game one 10-3, followed by a 10-2 win in the final game of the weekend. The Hawks' pitching staff combined for 19 strikeouts today. Braden Shull accounted for 10 strikeouts.

Shull (W, 3-0) tossed six and a third inning allowing three earned runs on nine hits with 10 strikeouts in game one. Mark Niebrugge (W, 2-1) pitched eight innings allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts in game two.

The Hawks (15-5, 2-2 GLVC) scored six runs in the top of the third inning to take a commanding lead in game one. Jake Walters slammed a three-run home run to right field as part of the six run inning.

Ryan Snyder and Matt Hilmes went back-to-back in the seventh inning to push the QU lead to 10-2. Snyder homered to left and Hilmes left the yard to right.

Shaun Troy came in to finish the game in the seventh to record the final two outs to give the Hawks a 10-3 win in game one over the Bulldogs (10-15, 2-2 GLVC).

Troy Wehde singled in the second inning of game two to score Snyder and Walters. David Jacob doubled down the left field line in the third inning to score Dominic Miles. Jacob scored on a Snyder sacrifice fly to give a 4-0 lead to the Hawks.

Brynn Martinez homered to right field to score Justin Blechle and TJ Tamaccio to lift the Hawks to a 7-0 lead.

The Hawks scored three more runs in the ninth inning as insurance. Cole Craword allowed one earned run in the final inning of game to earning a 10-2 win. Crawford hurled two strikeouts.


David Jacob recorded five hits and three RBI. The Hawks finished with 22 hits scoring 20 runs. QU had eight extra base hits including four home runs.

The Hawks will play host to Harris Stowe State University on Wednesday, Mar. 30th at QU Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
