Hawks Drop Two at Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy University baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 25 in Kirksville, Mo. to Truman State University. In game one, QU fell victim to a six run sixth inning by TSU to fall 8-6. Game two saw the Bulldogs walk-off the Hawks in the seventh inning on a base hit to center field.

The Hawks (13-5, 0-2 GLVC) took a commanding 6-2 lead in the fifth inning of game one. David Jacob started off the scoring in the fifth with a two-run blast to right field. Later in the inning, Matt Hilmes singled through the right side to score Jake Walters from second.

The Bulldogs (10-13, 2-0 GLVC) took advantage of an error by the Hawks in the sixth inning to notch six runs and take an 8-6 lead. Three of the six runs scored were unearned.

The Hawks recorded just one hit in the final three innings.

Jake Peterson (L, 3-2) threw five and a third innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. 

In game two, Matt Hilmes doubled down the left field line and David Hayes would trade places with a double to right center in the second inning to give the Hawks an early lead.

Truman State would answer in the bottom of the third inning with a sacrifice fly.

Graham Spraker (L, 2-1) tossed six and two thirds innings allowing two runs on five hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Kent Frantz (W, 1-3) pitched a complete game four-hitter allowing one earned run for the Bulldogs. 

Matt Hilmes had four hits in two games with one run scored and one RBI. David Jacob had three hits including a two-run homer. Jake Walters recorded two hits in game one. JP Meyer and David Hayes each had two RBI on the day.

The Hawks and Bulldogs will square off again at noon tomorrow in another doubleheader in Kirksville, Mo.
