Defense and Pitching QU's Kryptonite in 13-12 Loss at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Quincy University baseball team lost for the second time this weekend to the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, Mar. 13. UIndy scored a walk-off win on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to win a wild, 13-12, game. QU out hit the Greyhounds, but committed five errors allowing six unearned runs. The Hawk pitching staff combined for seven walks, two hit batters, and six wild pitches.

Graham Spraker started for the Hawks (9-3) allowing three earned runs and four unearned runs. 

The Greyhounds (11-2) took advantage of a dropped foul ball to put up four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A throwing error in the bottom of the fifth gave UIndy another unearned run giving UIndy a 10-8 lead. Another throwing error in the bottom of the seventh gave UIndy a sixth unearned run in the game.

Despite all of the unearned runs, the QU offense kept the Hawks in the game. Jake Walters was 3-for-5 with five RBI and his second home run of the season. Justin Blechle hit is fourth home run of the season of the two-run variety to give QU a 12-10 lead in the seventh. Ryan Snyder was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI triple. David Jacob was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Shea Stine had an RBI double and picked up another RBI on a ground out.

Every hitter in the QU lineup recorded at least one hit totaling 13 hits.

The Hawks will play one nine inning game at home on Tuesday, March 15th against Northwest Missouri State University. First pitch at QU Stadium will take place at 3 p.m.
