Quincy Stumbles at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Quincy University baseball team lost their second game of the season as the bats fell quiet and the defense committed three errors at the University of Indianapolis. UIndy won the game 6-1 over QU. Matt Kaplanis tossed a complete game four-hitter for the Greyhounds.

Indianapolis (9-2) started off the bottom of the first with a single. Quincy (8-2) could not corral a couple of bunt singles that loaded the bases for Indianapolis. Jake Peterson (L, 2-1) induced a double play ball, but a run scored. A single to right field gave UIndy the 2-0 lead.

A pair of errors in the bottom of the third inning by QU gave the Greyhounds two unearned runs and a four-run lead.

UIndy would add another run in the fifth inning.

David Jacob singled in the top of the seventh inning to lead things off. After an out, Ryan Snyder drilled a double to the left center gap to score Snyder and give QU their lone run of the game. Snyder was the last base runner for Quincy.

The Greyhounds manufactured a sixth run in the bottom of the seventh inning and put Quincy down in order the next two innings to grab the 6-1 win.

Quincy had four hits and struck out nine times. QU had three errors in the infield.

Dominic Miles, JP Meyer, Jacob, and Snyder each had a hit for the Hawks.

The Greyhounds finished with 12 hits and had a clean game defensively.

The Hawks will play Saginaw Valley State University tomorrow at noon CT in Indianapolis, Ind. in a single nine inning game.
