#13 Lewis Defeats Host Quincy in Straight Sets

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team lost in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18, to No. 13 Lewis on Friday (Feb. 5) night in MIVA action at Pepsi Arena.
 
The teams were tied early in Set 1, 7-7, before the Flyers (7-4, 2-1 MIVA) went on an 8-1 run that included five blocks, to take a 15-8 lead they would not relinquish.
 
Set 2 was close in the early-going with the Flyers holding a 12-11 lead midway through. The visitors got a 2-0 run and eventually pulled away for the set win.
 
The Hawks fell behind early in Set 3 and never recovered after trailing 9-3. QU scored four straight to get back in it, but the host never got it closer than two points.
 
Seniors Ian Lawson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Jack Gamache (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) led the Hawks with seven kills apiece with the latter hitting .286 for the match. Junior setter Thane Fanfulik (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) added 25 assists.
 
Mitch Perinar paced the Flyers with 16 kills and 11 digs. Lewis hit .420 as a team, while limiting the Hawks to a .184 figure. The Flyers led in blocks, 9-5.
 
The Hawks return to the Pepsi Arena court on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 7 p.m. to take on defending national champion No. 4 Loyola Chicago.
